James G Miles was born in Belfast in 1953. He is a graduate of the University of the Ulster holding a BA Honours and a Master of Arts Degree.
James has settled in recent times in the hamlet of Minerstown, near Tyrella Beach, County Down, where he paints on a full time basis. He has loved this part of County Down for many years. Inspiration is presented to him by local people and by the fabulous natural beauty of Dundrum Bay, Tyrella Beach, The Mountains of Mourne, St. John's Point, Coney Island, Rossglass and Ardglass. "The area is quite simply breathtaking. I make sure I take in the view at the start of my day to remind myself how lucky I am to live here at Minerstown."
James is a keen musician and plays regularly throughout County Down. Music has also inspired his painting and subjects are often linked to songs written by himself or friends. Other influences are works by Irish Artists such as Tom Carr,Kenneth Webb, George Gillespie, Cecil Maguire, John Connery, his late father John St Clair Taylor Miles and JB Vallely.
"Art for the people" is something close to his heart and he works very hard in advance of exhibitions to notify local people of the availability of his work. James is happy to take landscape/seascape commissions.

The work of James G Miles is held in private collections throughout Ireland, England, Sweden, Switzerland, The Channel Islands, Canada, USA, Germany, Holland, Spain and New Zealand. His locally renowned painting "Race Against The Storm To Ardglass" is on permanent display in Downpatrick Library as part of the South Eastern Education and Library Board (SEELB) collection.
Current art can be found on sale in galleries in Hillsborough, Belfast, Derry, Galway, Dublin,Cong, Newcastle, Dundrum and Saintfield and Downpatrick.
